Reformational Commentary on Ezekiel 39:3
"And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand." (Ezekiel 39:3)
The sense of the smitten bow-and-arrow metaphor is that Gog’s military capabilities, so improved since Russia’s botched invasion of
Ukraine, will be by the time of the assault on Israel even less useful to his forces than in their debauched and bungling condition during the
Ukraine debacle.
In simpler terms, Gog's weaponry will be effectively useless against what the Lord will unleash on him, rendering this arrogant, wicked man
effectively disarmed and powerless.
Gill puts it thus:
...bows and arrows are put for all kind of warlike instruments; and are particularly mentioned because they were chiefly used in war when this prophecy was delivered. (John Gill on Ezekiel 39:3).
