Reformational Commentary on Ezekiel 39:29
"Neither will I hide my face any more from them: for I have poured out my spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD." (Ezekiel 39:29)
The higher instrumentality of the Jewish Epiphany at the time of the Gog-Magog assault is now revealed:
"...for I have poured out my spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD"
The Arminians and all the apostate Christians who despise the blessed Reformation's doctrines of Sovereign Grace can have no answer for this.
The Divine instrumentality that shall remove the blinkers from the eyes of the Jews is no less than a miraculous intervention in their hearts,
en masse, at the same time, performed by the Holy Ghost.
And this, as readers who know the Reformed faith will affirm, is in the same fashion whereby sinners have only ever been saved:
"And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." (Ephesians 2:1-10)
All believers are dead in trespasses and sins, spiritual corpses, until the Lord’s Spirit performs a miracle upon us, to give us a new heart of
reverential love for Him; no corpse can raise itself from the dead, or choose of its own "free will" to come to Christ; only a sovereign act of
God, according to His discriminating election from eternity past, can raise us from spiritual death unto life in Christ.
So it shall be when the Lord works this miracle on that great day in Israel, a day when all its hope of protection from the West and its false
sense of security (either in its peace treaty, if such a thing will be extant at that time, or simply in its sense of self-protection and its
own nuclear deterrent) shall vanish in the face of the massive onslaught wrought against it by the Gog-led forces.
At that point, with Jerusalem itself on the brink of being overrun, and its people in great distress and panic, the Lord shall open their eyes,
cause them to look on Him Whom they have pierced, and give them not just hearts of belief in Christ as the true Messiah, but a heart of loving
repentance towards Him, and a voice to cry out, not just in evangelical sorrow for their sins, but in a plea for His deliverance from the
terror outside, praying in a spirit of "grace" (as believers in Christ) "and of supplications" (in mourning for their sins and the sins of their
fathers, and requesting His Divine intervention to save them from Gog), as per Zechariah 12:10-14 (which was only partially fulfilled during
the Lord's first advent, with the believing Jews).
And so we close out this study of Ezekiel 38-39 with this remark: the Israel that the Lord shall, in His just and jealous wrath, intervene
against Gog for, shall never again turn from Him; rather, it will abide until He comes as none other than a Christian, Messianic, repentant,
reconciled, evangelical, Reformationally Calvinistic Israel.
And the whole world shall know it.
Therefore, Christian reader, "pray for the peace of Jerusalem" (Psalm 122:6) knowing that, since "there is no peace, saith the LORD, unto the wicked"
(Isaiah 48:22), the injunction to pray for Jerusalem's peace can only be a command to pray for the conversion of the Jews to Christ.
