Reformational Commentary on Ezekiel 38:20

"So that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground." (Ezekiel 38:20)

Ezekiel 38:20 expresses the undeniable sense of God's motion in coming to Israel's aid, in a fashion so palpable as to be presented in terms of the very creatures of the sea, the birds, the animals, insects and the whole of humanity worldwide, in sum, the whole of animate, living creation physically shaking at His presence in Israel, and the very mountains collapsing along with the walls of buildings.

None of this is to be taken hyper literally, as otherwise every home on the planet would be destroyed; rather it is minimally figurative speech, designed to convey the sobering and frankly terrifying undeniability of God's intervention in Israel, even though any literal tectonic aspect of this Divine intervention would indeed be felt, especially in the vicinity of the land of Israel; but, to reiterate, the wording here cannot possess absolute literality, for the reason outlined earlier.

This means that the smug fools better known as atheists will know that God Almighty lives.

But it also means that the Muslims, the Hindus, the Buddhists, and all the other heathen religions will know that the God of the Bible, the Holy One of Israel, has bestirred Himself to stand up for Jacob.

More than that, though, it shall be made known and understood by all that this is not just God hasting to deliver the Jews, but Jews who have in one moment, as it were, in a single day perhaps, been transformed by a sovereign act of God, in pouring out His Spirit, to become Christian in a genuine Reformed sense of the term.

"Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such a thing? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children... Rejoice ye with Jerusalem, and be glad with her, all ye that love her: rejoice for joy with her, all ye that mourn for her:" (Isaiah 66:8,10) ~ NOTE: There can be no greater rejoicing for - and with - Jerusalem than doing so within the context of ethnic Israel's return to the Messianic faith.

Accordingly, the Antichristians of the western and eastern forks of the Antichurch, as well as the harlot offspring thereof (apostate "Protestantism") will also see and know that the Jews have, en masse and at once, become Reformed Protestants.

"...and all flesh shall know that I the LORD am they Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob." (Isaiah 49:26)

And, as newly made Reformed Protestants, the Jews will be seen to be favoured and delivered by God, displaying not just the remembrance of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, but also His ownership of and absolute approval of the Reformed faith of the early church, of the pre-Reformation believers and of the first Reformation's advocates and adherents, as well as that of the lingering faithful few of the present day.

Thus a tidal wave of dread, a worldwide shaking of the minds of wicked humanity, will ensue when God moves to deliver His suddenly Christian Israel from Gog's malevolent invasion.

How sobering this will be to all the ostensible conservatives in America who are now cursing and deriding Israel, sarcastically calling it "our greatest ally"!

Yes, modern Israel is an ungodly, wicked nation and the Jews (especially the very rich and influential among them) a particularly evil people, given to corrupting society with their godless film industry, pornography, social engineering and other abominations; but the vast majority of today's Jews are, nonetheless, elect and as such, beloved Christian brethren-in-waiting.

It behoves us therefore to not just "pray for the peace of Jerusalem" (i.e. for the conversion of the Jews), but to desist from participating in the growing surge of hostility against them which, sadly, will eventually result in the West decoupling fully from its protective alliances with Israel, a process that gained extra momentum in the aftermath of the tragic Charlie Kirk assassination (a murder that was eagerly and rather in lockstep pinned on Israel by almost all of America's conservative influencers) and that received higher level support with the ominous and plainly coordinated decision by the United Kingdom, France, Canada and Australia in the autumn of 2025 to formally recognise a Palestinian state at the United Nations.
